Difference Learning Workshop @ TECH, 2017

A workshop titled ‘Better teaching through digital media’ was conducted by Dr. Nandini Singh Chatterjee, Dr. Michael Hart, Priyanka Patel and Saif Ali Khan to inform a heterogeneous group of educators and about different learners in the classroom.

A workshop titled ‘Better teaching through digital media’ was conducted by Dr. Nandini Singh Chatterjee, Dr. Michael Hart, Priyanka Patel and Saif Ali Khan to inform a heterogeneous group of educators and about different learners in the classroom. MGIEP’s difference learning programme is focused on learners with different brain wiring and different learning needs.

This workshop was specifically focused on dyslexia which is the inability to acquire reading skills in the classroom despite opportunity and instruction.  

Dr. Chatterjee presented the screening tool for teachers which is part of DALI (Dyslexia Assessment for Languages of India). This unique tool which is currently available in different Indian languages was introduced and many items of the tool were discussed and explained. In particular she highlighted the extension of the tool to Telugu.

Dr. Hart targeted best practices for proper intervention for deficits that might be identified by the tool.

Priyanka Patel discussed Grapho-game which is a game based intervention for children in English and Finish. Saif Ali Khan outlined the development of a new mobile app to teach children sound-letter mapping skills in Hindi.
