Talking Across Generations (TAG):

After last year’s success, the main objective of TAG 2016 is to bring the voices of the youth towards the ongoing debate on the rise of violent extremism across the world and to explore if and how education can play a role in addressing the problem. It aims at fostering a discussion that goes beyond the mainstream discourses on violent extremism and rethinking education towards a more peaceful and sustainable future. Join us for an opportunity to cut down the artificial barriers of podiums and stages, and exchange ideas across generations in an open and honest discussion!

The theme for this year’s edition is ‘Violent Extremism and Education: Can Education Radicalise Youth for Peace?’.

The event will begin with a panel discussion on ‘Violent Education and Extremism’ by a distinguished panel including Awista Ayub (Director of South Asian Programs for Seeds of Peace and author of Kabul Girls Soccer Club), Salim Salamah (Head of Palestinian League for Human Rights – Syria), Simon Kuany Kiir Kuany (former South Sudanese refugee and current student at Symbiosis International University) and Dr. Liz Jackson (Professor at the University of Hong Kong). The session is being moderated by reputed journalist Aiko Doden (Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai).

UNESCO MGIEP will also the YESPeace India chapter (in partnership with Pravah and CYC) and release the report on the New Education Policy. This will be followed by a town-hall discussion among youth participants and experts that asks the question ‘Can Education Radicalise Youth For Peace?’. This segment will be moderated by Rohit Gandhi, award-winning journalist and editor-in-chief of Zee News English.

The day’s activities will be followed by a performance in the evening by hugely popular bands Indian Ocean(India) and Junoon (Pakistan), sponsored by Pepsi MTV Indies. The two bands are performing together for the first time ever.
