The Need: A Concert For A Healthy Planet

The prevailing COVID-19 Pandemic has left an indelible mark on all of us as we grapple with the changes in our day-to-day lives while ensuring we stay safe and protect ourselves, our loved ones and our communities. In many ways, it has brought the global community closer and made us realise that collectively we can make a difference for humanity and our planet. This Earth Day, April 22, 2020, over 40 stellar musicians, including 5 Grammy® Award-Winners will come together to lend their voice to an online Concert For a Healthy Planet.

We are all in this together!

The virus doesn't discriminate; it could happen to anyone of us! And so it is important to realise that we are one global community - in a collective battle against the virus. We must do our bit for ourselves, our loved ones, our communities and the planet.

Kindness Is Contagious

A simple act of kindness can transform has the power to create an endless ripple - to transform societies and the world. It is time for us to reflect, empathise and practice compassion. One simple act of kindness can inspire thousands.

Physical Distance with Social Connect

Given the nature of the virus, yes, it is critical for us to maintain physical distance. However, it is also important for us to realise the importance of social connect. Even though we may physically be apart, together we are connected in this fight against the virus.

About the Concert

UNESCO MGIEP is joining forces with WWF Global, UNFCCC, UNCCD, UNICEF India, Earth Day Network, One Page Spotlight and Grammy® Award-Winner + #KindnessMatters Global Brand Ambassador, Ricky Kej, for a one of a kind Concert for a Healthy Planet.

When?

This Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, 2020 - join 40+ stellar musicians from over 6 countries as part of a virtual concert for 60 minutes! Watch the Concert LIVE from the comfort of your home! The Concert will be streamed live twice - at 8 PM (Indian Standard Time) and 8 PM (Eastern Time).

A Message of Solidarity

Over 40 artists will come together to promote a message of Solidarity. All musicians will perform from their respective homes to encourage #StayHome and #StaySafe, and the Concert will be deferred-live to the world over the internet. The Concert will also see the launch of the official music video of the #KindnessMatters Anthem --- "Shine Your Light", with performances in 5 countries and 13 cities. The Anthem has a central theme of "Kindness to Everyone".

Grammy® Winner, US Billboard #1 Artist, UNESCO MGIEP 'Global Ambassador for Kindness' and UNICEF 'Celebrity Supporter' Ricky Kej is an internationally renowned Indian Music Composer, Environmentalist and Professor. Ricky has dedicated his life and Music to creating awareness on the environment, and positive social impact. He has performed at prestigious venues in over 25 countries, including at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and Geneva.

Singer & Grammy® Winner from USA

Grammy® Winner from USA, Laura infuses a unique freedom and laser-beam vocal precision into every song she performs. A hugely popular vocal contractor and voice actress in Hollywood, her vocals can be heard in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, War For The Planet Of The Apes, Sing, Pitch Perfect and the sequel, on commercials for Maybelline, Target, and Priceline along with hit shows such as Modern Family, Son Of Zorn and Supernatural.

Popularly known for being the lead vocalist of the band ‘Fardikot’, IP Singh has been in the music scene as a composer, lyricist and singer for the past 11 years. Riding the early success of the album 'Ek', he has nearly 500shows under his belt. He has won many accolades for his live shows, where he has shared the stage with the likes of Midival Punditz, Karsh Kale, Indian Ocean, Noorie and many more esteemed artists. Blessed with a soulful voice, he likes to engage with his audience and takes them on a magical ride.

Baaba Maal

Senegalese Singer and Guitarist - joining us from Senegal, Africa

Baaba Maal is a Senegalese singer and guitarist born in Podor, on the Senegal River. He is well known in Africa and internationally and is one of Senegal's most famous musicians. In addition to acoustic guitar, he also plays percussion. He has released several albums both
for independent and major labels. In July 2003, he was made a UNDP Youth Emissary and also serves at the UNCCD “Land Ambassador”. He has released 11 studio albums and voiced the Wakandan soundtrack of the blockbuster film ‘Black Panther.

Wouter Kellerman

Grammy® Award-winning South African flutist, producer and composer - joining us from Melbourne, Australia

A Grammy® Award-winning South African flutist, producer and composer who has won six South African Music Awards. Using his classical training as a foundation, Kellerman has focused his attention on World and Roots music, exploring the versatility of the instrument and fusing classical and contemporary sounds.

Mzansi Youth Choir

28 member choir--- joining us from South Africa

The Mzansi Youth Choir is globally recognised as Africa’s finest show choir. In April 2017, the choir performed at the International Youth Choir Festival at the Royal Albert Hall, London. The Mzansi Youth Choir was the only choir from the African continent to be selected to perform at this prestigious global event. Mzansi’s beautiful, youthful sound, exciting choreography, pulsating energy, buoyancy, vibrancy and devotion to South African music is an experience not to be missed.

Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt

Hindustani Classical Music Instrumentalist - joining us from Jaipur, India

Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt is a Grammy® Winning Hindustani classical music instrumentalist. Creator of the MOHAN VEENA (slide guitar), Vishwa Mohan Bhatt has mesmerized the world with his pristine pure, delicate yet fiery music. He has performed extensively world over and has attracted international attention through his successful indianisation of the western Hawaiian guitar with his perfect assimilation of sitar, sarod & Veena techniques, by giving it an evolutionary design & shape. Bhatt is undoubtedly the most expressive, versatile and greatest slide players in the world.

Hai Phuong

Singer - joining us from Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam

Hai Phuong is one of the leading Dan Tranh musicians in the world. A Graduate of HCMC Conservatory (Zither Performance Department), she won ‘The First Prize’ and ‘The Best Contemporary Music Performer Prize’ in ‘The First National Concours of Young Zither talents 1992’. She has performed in several National and International Music Festivals. Currently, Hai Phuong is a teacher of Tranh Zither in HCMC conservatory.

Manoj George

Violinist

Manoj is a violinist and composer of repute. He has performed as a conductor, string arranger and choral arranger in the Grammy award-winning album Winds of Samsara. His wide repertoire includes scoring music for Malayalam and Kannada feature films, documentaries, short films and commercials.

Lonnie Park

Musician, Composer, Producer, and Author - joining us from New York, USA

Grammy® Nominee Lonnie Park is a vocalist, Keyboardist, songwriter, engineer, producer and plays a wide variety of instruments. Along with his solo career, and various collaborations, Lonnie is the lead singer of the band Ten Man Push. Lonnie also regularly collaborates with Grammy Winning producer and conservationist Ricky Kej for performances at United Nations summits and other world stages. Lonnie has also produced commissioned music for causes such as Autism Works, Autism Movement, Puzzle Solvers.

Varijashree Venugopal

Indian Singer and Flutist - joining us from Bengaluru, India

Varijashree was found to have the rare ability to identify about 40 ragas at the tender age of one and a half years and about 200 ragas at the age of four years. She was initially trained by her father. An award winning vocalist and flute player, Varijashree is known for her immense virtuosity as a cross-cultural musician and performer.

Arun Kumar

Musician - joining us from Bengaluru, India

Along with being a master of Carnatic percussion, Arun is also a very well-known Jazz drummer. Has been in the field of Music since 1986 and rendered percussion support to Carnatic Classical, Talavadya, Jazz music, Light Music and Dance Performances. Has given performances all over India, Hong Kong, Germany, Holland, France, Switzerland, UK, Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg, Sri Lanka, USA and Canada.

The Raveolution Choir - Dominic D’Cruz & Jerusha Lawrence

Choir - joining us from Bengaluru, India

Conducted by Dominic D’Cruz, the Raveolution Choir is a collection of few of the best singers and musicians from Bengaluru. The choir is versatile and has performed at many concerts with Ricky Kej.

Vijayaa Shanker

Singer, Songwriter, Composer, Voice Coach and Entrepreneur - joining us from Mumbai, India

Trained in Carnatic Music under various eminent musicians of India, Vijayaa is a singer - songwriter, composer, voice coach and entrepreneur. A recipient of several awards including the Sahitya Kala Parishad Award, Vijayaa has sung over 2500 jingles and has sung in films in multiple languages. She is also a social worker and supports several causes such as Education, Women’s empowerment etc.
