Policy and SEL
Policies right from the national level down to the school level, play a key role in defining the success of mainstreaming SEL within education systems. In many countries, educational policies advocate the holistic development of children and acknowledge the role of education in children’s social and emotional development. A holistic approach to policy design and implementation requires integration and collaboration across sectors, including education, health, community and social services to ensure policy coherence when implementing social and emotional learning (SEL) programs.
